This was my fifth time of seeing Elton John. It was on April 5, 2013 at the Bridgestone Arena. Elton John still has it, just as he did forty years ago when I first saw Elton perform in 1973 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Tour. I also saw him in between those forty years at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, the Grand Ole Opry House, as well as another concert at MTSU, in the 90's. I was happy to see original members Davey Johnstone & Nigel Ollson in the band. Unfortunately, original bass player Dee Murray died of cancer in Nashville, many years ago. He opened the concert with The Bitch Is Back. We had good seats on the floor, about half way back. He went on to play many of his big hits, as well as some of his lessor known songs. All of them sounded great! When he introduced the band, he also brought out his writing partner of forty years, Bernie Taupin, who just happened to be in town
doing an art exhibit. He also gave a shout out to South Nashville's own Brenda Lee, dedicating Fancy Dancer to her. He mentioned middle Tennessee resident Leon Russell, and did Hey Ahab from his last album, which he recorded with Leon . The crowd really got into the concert as he played songs including Bennie And The Jets, Philadelphia Freedom, Candle In The Wind, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, Daniel, I'm Still Standing, Crocodile Rock, Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting and many others. He finished the show with an encore of Your Song. Even after seeing Elton five times, I would go see him again if given
the chance. Of all the concerts that I have been to at the Bridgestone Arena including The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, AC/DC and others, this one ranks as one of the best that I seen there, right up there with Paul McCartney. Go see Elton if you get a chance. You won't regret it
